Curious Minds – A day with Brgy 260 Grade 3 Students
Last October 11, 2024, our Grade 3 students had the opportunity to visit Barangay 260 as part of their Unit of Inquiry (UOI) focused on local governance. This engaging exposure trip allowed them to learn directly about the duties and responsibilities of the Barangay Captain, Rey Alcomedas, who has been serving since 2007.
The students gained valuable insights into how community leaders address local issues and the critical role they play in supporting their constituents, which deepened their understanding of leadership and civic responsibility.
During the visit, the students observed how Barangay Captain and his team of seven Kagawads worked together to tackle the challenges faced by community members, particularly in assisting seniors and students. They learned about the Barangay’s commitment to welfare, including swift responses to natural disasters and providing food packs to families in need. Barangay Captain highlighted the importance of seeking professional help for issues that exceed local capabilities, illustrating a proactive approach to community service and support.
Safety and community cooperation were also emphasized throughout the visit. Rey explained the vital role of Barangay Tanods, who patrol the area to maintain peace and security. The students learned about the Barangay’s efforts in promoting rights and ensuring a safe environment for all residents, especially children. The Barangay Captain encouraged them to be role models in their own communities, Emphasizing the significance of respect, responsibility, and service. By understanding the interconnectedness of local governance and community engagement, our students left with a stronger appreciation for their roles as active participants in society.
